DDIG aims to help dyscalculic and dyslexic students by:
- Exchanging information between ourselves as H.E. practitioners regarding the links between dyscalculia, dyslexia, maths anxiety and the study of Mathematics in Higher Education.
- Offering a forum a) for discussion of issues arising from the above, b) linking research and practice.
- Raising awareness of these issues generally and to find out what has been done in this field, particularly in higher education.
- Compiling a list of resources and pooling together practical ideas, such as a checklist for lecturers, and information on how to reproduce material accessible to dyslexics.
DDIG was formed by members of the following institutions:
- Mathematics Learning Support Centre, Loughborough University.
- Maths Support Centre, Coventry University.
- Maths Learning Centre, De Montfort University.
- Learning Diversity Support, De Montfort University.
- Centre for Additional Learning Support, Loughborough University.
However DDIG has grown rapidly and we now have members from many different institutions.
In 2003, DDIG received some funding from the Higher Education Academy - Engineering Subject Centre.This enabled us to promote our work to a wider audience, to produce exemplar worksheets and materials, to run workshops and develop this web site. We acknowledge the support given by HEA engineering.
For the academic year 2004/2005, we received funding from Loughborough University. We acknowledge their support.
This web site is the legacy of the DDIG project, which, we intend, will continue to provide a large pool of resources for the community. The DDIG project is no longer funded and can no longer provide an advice service, however the DDIG JISCmail list will remain as a bulletin service. For details on joining the list, clink the link.
